Enkuklios Paideia
...The Circle of Learning

To showcase the scholarly endeavors of the faculty of Union University, each year the College of Arts and Sciences organizes a faculty dinner followed by an address delivered by one or more of our own scholar-teachers. Designed to promote interdisciplinary discussion, addresses are often followed by a response given by a faculty member from different discipline. Each evening concludes with a time of discussion, allowing faculty members from across the disciplines to engage one another in conversation and thus participate in the “circle of learning.”

The next Enkuklios Paideia scholarship dinner, scheduled for September 18, 2006, will feature two presentations, the first by Dr. Kevin Cooney, Associate Professor of Political Science, and the second by Dr. Antonio Chiareli, Associate Professor of Sociology. Dr. Cooney will present “When Christianity Went Global Was the West Left Behind?” Dr. Chiareli will address the topic “Hard-Pressed on Every Side: Jenkins and the New Anti-Catholicism.” The dinner will begin at 6:00 in Coburn Dining Room with the first address to begin at approximately 6:45.

Both presenters will be responding to texts written by Philip Jenkins: The Next Christendom and The New Anti-Catholicism. Copies are on reserve in the library.

Reservations are required; more information will be posted shortly.
