Before Union: Beck transferred to Union from Middle Georgia Community College where he played one season of baseball. As a freshman at MGCC, he posted a 5.28 ERA. Beck prepped at Columbus (Ga.) High School where he played four years of baseball and football. He helped lead Columbus to the state title in 2004 and 2005, while finishing runner-up in 2006 and 2007. Beck was named All Bi-City twice and was named Top-100 underclassmen list as a junior. He hit .444 with seven home runs and 58 RBI, while posting a 1.38 in 7.2 innings as a senior.
