Bulldog Soccer vs. Lyon College (Ark.)

Tue, August 27, 2002  2:00 p.m.   Batesville, AR
Union Result: W 6-2

Union soccer opened the 2002 season with a 6-2 victory over conference foe, Lyon College. Union's record is now 1-0 overall with a 1-0 mark in conference play. Their trip to Batesville, Arkansas became very interesting when they arrived to find hundreds of college students and local supporters at Lyon witness the first ever game for the Lyon soccer program. Coach White said of the scene, "It was a carnaval type atmosphere with local venders everywhere. It was a really neat thing to see."

Lyon gave the Bulldogs an early shock as the Scots scored on a long shot in the first minute to go up 1-0. However, after wearing down the young Lyon team, Union scored two goals late in the first half to take a 2-1 lead at the break. Union never trailed after that and went on to take the match by a 6-2 final.

Scoring goals for the Bulldogs were Kekec Zivkovic with two, Joe Phiri with two, Adrian Yeung with one, and Clovis Simas with one.
