Union University split their two softball games on Saturday in the final day of the Union Invitational. No. 7 Union lost their first game of the day to No. 14 Olivet Nazarene 1-0, however, rebounded by taking the final game 1-0 over Grace College. In the opening game, Olivet Nazarene defeated Grace 4-3. Union is now 10-2 on the season, Olivet Nazarene is 5-1, and Grace is 0-4.
Union failed to score in the first game as Olivet's Liz Beirne pitched seven innings of shutout ball. Beirne gave up just two hits on the day. Union's Mary Kosco, fresh off her no-hitter on Friday, pitch pretty well herself. Kosco allowed just one run on five hits in seven innings. However, Kosco falls to 5-1 on the year. Olivet scored their one run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single by Alicia Hammel. For Union, Holly Haycraft and Amanda Dixon recorded Union's only hits.
In game two, Union still struggling to score runs, tallied their one and only run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Union scattered eight hits in the game but stranded eight runners in the game. Union's Leah Gronberg improved to 5-1 on the season as she pitched seven innings, giving up only one hit and striking out four Grace batters. Amy Smith took the loss for Grace in her six innings of work. Haycraft and Gronberg each tallied two hits in the game with Allison Shein earning the lone RBI in the game. Shein drove in Gronberg on a single to left in the fourth. Cole Allen picked up the only hit for Grace College.
