The No. 2 ranked Union Lady Bulldogs tallied their 21st win of the season and their 16th win in a row as they defeated Cumberland University 81-61. Union improves to 21-1 overall and 8-0 in the TranSouth, while Cumberland falls to 8-13 overall and 2-5 in the conference.
The first half proved to be the difference in the game as Union outscored Cumberland 43-23 in the first twenty minutes. Jessica Henson of Union scored 13 of her team-high 18 points in the first half with 3-of-6 shooting from behind the arc. Union's Allison Harrison and Christal Merriweather added 15 and 10 points respectively. For Cumberland, Sheree Driver scored a game-high 20 points and made 3-of-5 three pointers in the game. Rachel Derrick added 10 points for Cumberland.
Union forced 36 turnovers, 21 in the first half, and scored 45 points off of those turnovers. Union shot 46% from the field including 44% from behind the arc. Union held Cumberland to only 38% shooting, however, Cumberland made 8-of-17 three pointers in the game.
Union plays next on Monday, February 3 when they travel to No. 11 North Georgia College. Union defeated North Georgia 89-71 in their meeting earlier in the season.
