The Union University Bulldogs won their opening game of the Casey Jones Village Classic by defeating Brewton-Parker College 3-1. Union improves to 2-1-1 on the season. In the early game, Lambuth defeated Fisk University 15-1.
Union fell behind early on a Brewton-Parker goal in the 25 minutes into the game and that scored held for the remainder of the first half. Just minutes into the second half, Union scored twice to take the lead. Last week's NCCAA Player of the Week, Alexandre Pereira, scored on a Marko Pavlovic assist to tie the game. Minutes later, Clovis Simas scored on a Kekec Zivkovic assist to give Union a lead that they wouldn't give up. With 20 minutes left to play, Union added their third and final goal when Pereira scored his second goal of the day on a penalty kick. Zivkovic recorded his second assist of the night.
Union's Robert Stinson, a native of Dickson, Tennessee, recorded five saves against 10 Brewton-Parker shots. Union outshot Brewton-Parker 12-10 on the night.
The Bulldogs will play against on Saturday in the final day of the Casey Jones Classic at 5 p.m. versus Fisk University. Lambuth will play Brewton-Parker at 7:30 p.m.
