Don Morris
Head Men's Golf Coach
Don Morris, a 1962 graduate of Union, is back as the head golf coach of the
Union golf program. Morris served as the Assistant Vice President for Financial
Aid at Union for 33 years and also coached the Bulldog golf program for 29 of
those years before his retirement in 1999. Morris takes over for on of his
former players and Union’s coach for the past three seasons, Keith Dory.
In his 29 years as coach for Union, Morris led the Bulldogs to 10 national
tournaments and won numerous conference championships. He has accumulated over
800 wins during his career. Morris explains, “I didn’t expect to return to
coaching, however, I look forward to helping keep Union’s golf program as on of
the tops in the nation”. Morris has committed himself to only one season, and
will re-evaluate his options after this year.
Union has finished second the TranSouth Conference for the past two seasons
but has narrowly missed the national tournament each season. Union was ranked in
the NAIA Top 25 all season until a slip in the Regional golf tournament caused
them to miss the nationals by only a few points. Morris believes this is a
good enough class of golfers to return Union to the NAIA National Tournament in
May.
