Before Union: Mallard prepped at Milan High School were he was a four-sport athlete. In addition to golf, he played baseball, football, and basketball for the Bulldogs. In golf, Mallard was named Most Improved and a junior and then Most Focused and honorable mentioned All-Region as a senior. His nine-hole scoring average over his junior and senior year was a 38. In football, Mallard was the MVP of the special teams as a junior and was named an honorable mentioned All-State preformer as a senior. He was named Most Improved, All-District, and All-Tournament in baseball. In the classroom, Mallard also excelled as he was a member of the Beta Club and finished in the Top-10 of his class.
