Union Softball Player Receives National
Honor
Jackson, TN—Union’s Rachel
Murray was named the NAIA National Pitcher of the Week.
Murray, a junior from Herrin, IL, went 4-0 last week as she
helped the Lady Bulldogs improve their record to 24-2 on the
season. She allowed only six hits in 26 innings pitched,
recorded 36 strikeouts and gave up no runs as she pitched four
complete game shutouts. Murray tossed two no-hitters, the
first against Bethel College, TN in a 8-0 win and the second
came against No. 13 ranked Spring Hill College, AL in a 2-0
victory.
On the season, Murray has and ERA of 0.39 in 89.0 innings
pitched. She has recorded 137 strikeouts and only 14 walks.
Opposing hitters are a hitting just .084 against Murray this
season.
The Lady Bulldogs are currently 24-2 overall and 4-0 in the
TranSouth Conference and have moved up to the No. 4 spot in
the latest NAIA poll. Union will play host to No. 14 Athens
State University, AL today at 2:00 PM. Union has split the two
games with Athens State this season. Then Union will host
conference opponent Lee University on Saturday at 12:00 Noon.
