Union’s Leah Gronberg Earns Second
Straight Pitcher of the Week Honor
Jackson,
TN—Leah
Gronberg, a freshman from College Station, Texas, was
named the TranSouth Pitcher of the Week. This is the second
consecutive week that Gronberg has received this honor and it
marks the fourth straight time that Union has nabbed the
award, teammate Rachel Murray receiving it the other two
times.
On the week, Gronberg had a record of 2-0 on the week. She
tallied six strikeouts in a 10-1 victory over Trevecca
Nazarene and added seven more in a 5-3 win over Lipscomb
University. For the year, Leah has a record of 18-1 with an
ERA of 0.95, third best in the TranSouth. She ranks second in
the conference in wins (18), strikeouts (121), and complete
games (18), and shutouts (7). Gronberg also has two saves to
on the season.
The Lady Bulldogs are currently 39-3 overall and 15-1 in
the TranSouth Conference. Union is ranked No. 3 in the latest
NAIA Top 25 Poll. They have won an outstanding 25 of their
last 26 games. Head coach Brian Dunn and the Lady Bulldogs are
looking to win the TranSouth Conference for the third straight
season. In May of this season, Union will host the NAIA Region
XI Softball Tournament in which the winner will earn a trip to
the NAIA Softball World Series. Union made their last and only
trip to the World Series in 1999 and is certainly focused on
nothing short of that same goal this season. The Lady Bulldogs
will play their next home game today against the Lambuth
Eagles at 2:00 PM.
