Union's Men's Tennis Team Wins TranSouth Regular Season and Tournament Championship;
Gary Johnson Named TranSouth Coach of the Year
Jackson, TN-The men's tennis
team, ranked No. 11 in the nation, won their third consecutive TranSouth Conference regular season title and their first TranSouth Tournament Championship. Head Coach Gary Johnson was named to his third consecutive Coach of the Year award.
Union finished the regular season with a 12-4 record overall and 5-1 in the conference. Berry College and Birmingham-Southern College also finished with 5-1 conference records, however, Union won the tie-breaker over both schools. In the tournament, Union defeated Berry College by one point, 19-18. Coach Johnson stated, "Because of the flighted scoring system, every match counted the same, whether you were the No. 1 or No. 6 on your team. The guys really rallied around each other and played their best tennis this week." The win in the tournament gives the Bulldogs an automatic bid to the NAIA Regional Tournament held in Birmingham, Alabama on April 27 and 28.
The Bulldogs had four players named to the All-Tournament First Team; Mario Cobo, Balazs Tili, Phillipe Sylvestre, and Leandro Carvalho. Cobo and Labella were named selected to the First Team in Doubles and Carvalho and Tili were selected to the Second Team.

Gary Johnson has taken his team to three NAIA National Championships, with his Bulldogs finishing last season ranked #12 in the NAIA. His career coaching record is 58-14. This is Coach Johnson's third straight TranSouth Coach of the Year honor.
