Jackson, TN—Drew Yates, JCM baseball standout
signed with Union University. Yates was selected to the 13AAA
All-District and All-Tournament team last season. He received
the JCM ‘Mr. Hustle’ Award in 2000 along with the Ford
Construction Invitation Tournament MVP award. Yates, a 5-10
center fielder, hit .432 with 42 RBI, four homeruns. At the
leadoff position for JCM, he had a .746 on base percentage
with 14 stolen bases. Yates will join three other local
players on next years Bulldog squad.
Union’s head baseball coach, Andy Rushing states
"Drew is a great student athlete with a 3.65 GPA. He is
good enough to play several positions for us, but is expected
to play in the outfield." Drew was honored by the Jackson
Madison County Hall of Fame as Jackson Central Merry’s male
athlete of the year. Yates was chosen as one of 30 students to
participate in Leadership University. He was also honored in
Who’s Who among American High School Students.
