Union Signs Junior College Baseball
All-American
Jackson, Tenn. -Union University Bulldogs head baseball
coach Andy Rushing announced Thursday that Clarksville, Tenn.
native Chip Briggs has signed to play his final two seasons of
college baseball for the Bulldogs. According to Rushing,
Briggs is "everything you look for in a student athlete.
Chip is the real deal."
A 1999 graduate of Clarksville High School, Briggs has
spent the last two seasons at Jackson State Community College
where he was an All-American second baseman who was selected
twice to the JCCAA Academic All-American team. This past
season, he was named All-Western Division, All-Conference,
All-Region, in addition to his All-American selection. Briggs
hit eight homeruns and drove in 65 runs while posting a .453
batting average and was the recipient of the 2001 Rawlings Big
Stick Award.
