Union Soccer Players
Earn National Honors
Jackson, TN— Scott Marksberry
received the NAIA Scholar Athlete Award. While at Union,
Marksberry maintained a 3.69 GPA while majoring in Business
Management.
Three members of the Union Soccer
team were named NCCAA All-Americans. Joe Phiri of Zambia was named
to the First Team All-American, having led the NCCAA in scoring
with an average of 1.45 per game. Phiri set a Union record with 24
goals in a season. Jeff Lean of British Columbia, Canada, was
named Second Team All-American. Lean, a sophomore goalkeeper
produced 9 shutouts on the season in his 16 starts. He was second
in the NCCAA with .064 goals allowed per game. Scott Marksberry of
Chicago, IL, was an honorable mention. Marksberry, the junior team
captain, added 11 goals this year.
