JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/1/2008 - The No. 1 ranked Union University Lady Bulldogs closed out the regular season with a 29-0 record, following an 89-40 win at Mid-Continent University (Ky.). In addition to the perfect regular season record, the Lady Bulldogs also completed only the second perfect conference season in the 12-year history of the TranSouth. The Lady Bulldogs finished 18-0 in conference play. Union also posted the other perfect conference season in 1999 with a 13-0 record. Mid-Continent dropped to 9-21 overall and 1-17 in league play.
Union has now won 50 of their last 52 games, dating back to January 11, 2007. The 29-0 record is the best regular season in team history as no Lady Bulldog team as posted a perfect regular season. The 29-game winning streak is the longest in team history.
Union will open the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Wednesday night, March 5 at 7:00 pm versus the winner of the Cumberland/Mid-Continent game. Union, after winning their second straight conference regular season title and 10th in the 12-year history of the league, will be the home team for as long as they keep winning.
The semifinals of the women’s tournament will be on Friday, March 7 and the championship will be Monday, March 10. The higher seed will be the host team in each game.
