JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/1/2008 - The Union University Bulldogs locked up fifth place in the TranSouth Conference with a 104-81 win at Mid-Continent University (Ky.). The win is Union’s season best fifth straight win. The Bulldogs improved to 18-12 on the season and 12-8 in league play. Mid-Continent dropped to 10-22 overall and 5-15 in league play.
Union has earned a bye in Tuesday’s first round of the conference tournament. Union will open the conference tournament on the road at the four-seed Cumberland University Bulldogs on Thursday night, March 6 at 7:00 pm. The semifinals will be Saturday, March 8, with the championship game on Tuesday, March 10. The higher seed in each game will be the host.
In the 12-year history of the League, Union has won five of the regular season titles and five tournament titles, more that any other team in the league. Union has appeared in seven of the 11 TranSouth Tournament Championship games to this point in the league’s history.
In this game, Union was led by junior guard Brian Lake with a career-high 38 points. He added 15 rebounds to set his TranSouth leading 13 double-double of the season. Matt Neaville added 16 points, Tacuma Alexander posted 14 points, and Keith Tolliver scored 13 points.
