Union's Neaville Named TranSouth's Top Newcomer, Lake 1st Team Honors

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - 3/3/2008 - The TranSouth Athletic Conference released the 2007-2008 men’s basketball All-Conference team and postseason awards. Matt Neaville of Union University earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Brian Lake joined Neaville with first team All-Conference honors. Roland Banhoro was named to the All-Freshman team. Neaville and Brandon Lay were named TranSouth Scholar Athletes.

Neaville, a 6-foot junior guard from Union University, who transferred this year from Parkland Community College, proved himself by racking up some outstanding statistics. He has scored 731 points this season, with a game average of 24.6. He had a field goal percentage of 40.6 and a three-point percentage of 36.6. His free throw percentage of 83.2 is most impressive, followed by his rebound total of 84 and his assist total of 105. He was ranked No.1 in the NAIA with an average of 4.78 three-point field goals per game, No.1 in points per game with 24.4, and No.4 in free throw percentage (.83). He was named TranSouth Player of the Week six times and was the NAIA Player of the Week once.

Lake, a 6-foot-6 junior from Bolivar, Tenn., led the conference this season with 13 double-doubles. He averaged 17.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. He was named the TranSouth Player of the Week three times.

Banhoro, a 6-foot-7 freshman, averaged 4.5 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. In conference games only, he upped his averaged to 6.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game.
