JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/6/2008 - The Union University women’s soccer team continues to add to their roster for the upcoming 2008 season. Bridget Roney is the latest signee. Roney hails from Barrington, New Jersey and will enter Union this fall as a freshman, majoring in Athletic Training and Physical Therapy.
Union head coach Brandon Boylan states, “Bridget is a solid midfielder with great distribution skills. Technically she is very sound and we are glad she has chosen Union to continue her academic and athlete career”.
Roney, a 5-foot-4 midfielder, prepped at Haddon Heights High School where she participated in four sports, including soccer, basketball, track, and softball. Roney led her basketball team to conference titles in 2006 and 2007. In 2007, her basketball team was also the South Jersey Group II Champions. Roney's track and field squad captured the 2007 State Championship, while her U-16 soccer team claimed the Walt Disney International Tournament Championship.
Roney has received numerous soccer honors during her career. As a senior, she played in the South Jersey All-Star Game, All-Conference All-Star Game, was named Team MVP, and Star Leger All-State. She was twice named All-Conference, All-South Jersey, and NJSAA All-State in her soccer career. Roney also received the Unsung Hero Award in Basketball, and was a state javelin qualifier for track and field.
In the classroom, Roney was an Honor Student, basketball scholar athlete, National Honor Society, and student body secretary. She is the daughter of Brian and Joanne Roney.
The Union women’s soccer team will be playing their fourth season of varsity competition in 2008. The team set numerous records in 2007, including most wins. In the three years of varsity play, Union has advanced to the region tournament twice.
