Union men’s cross country ranked No. 6 in NAIA preseason poll

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/20/2008 - The Union University men’s cross country team enters the 2008 season as the No. 6 team in the nation according to the preseason rankings released on Tuesday from the NAIA.

The No. 6 ranking is the highest mark in Union men’s cross country history. In 2007, the Bulldogs finished eighth in their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance, after capturing the TranSouth Conference and Region XI Tournament titles. Last season’s top ranking of No. 18 was their previous high ranking in program history.

Union’s men have won four straight conference titles, one region title, and one team appearance in the national tournament in their seven years as a varsity program.

Union Head Coach Gary Johnson stated, “The guys are very excited about the high ranking. They have arrived on campus with the purpose of working hard to earn the national recognition.”

Union opens their season on September 13 in the Memphis Twilight Classic at the Mike Rose Soccer Complex.
