Union baseball adds Mississippi standout player

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/27/2008 - Reid Gann, of Golden, Mississippi, has signed with the Union University baseball team for the upcoming season. Gann will enter Union this fall as a sophomore and will major in Athletic Training.

Gann, a 6-foot-3, 215 lb. first baseman, transferred to Union from Itawamba Community College where he played one season of baseball. His high school career included four seasons of baseball and football at Belmont (Miss.) High School. In baseball, Gann helped lead his team to a region title and state playoff run as a sophomore. He was named baseball All-Region twice, while also being named to the Northeast Mississippi All-Star Classic. Gann hit .420 with 37 RBI and four homeruns as a senior.

Gann’s high school football career was just as successful with state playoff appearances in each of his final three seasons. He recorded a school record 19 touchdowns as a senior quarterback. Gann was named football All-Region twice and team MVP.

Union head coach Brent Fronabarger says, “Reid has gap-to-gap power and will provide pop to the middle of the lineup.”

Off the field, Gann was on the Itawamba Dean’s List.
