JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/22/2008 - Laura Pla, the junior goalie for Union University’s Lady Bulldog soccer team has been named the TranSouth Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending September 21, 2008. This marks the third time this season that Pla has received this honor.
Pla, a 5-foot-11 junior goalkeeper from Nashville, Tenn., helped keep Union close in its matches against NCAA Division II Delta State (Miss.) University and Lyon (Ark.) College stopping a total of 16 shots while allowing just three goals. The Lady Bulldogs lost to Delta State in overtime, 1-0, and fell on the road at Lyon by the score of 2-1.
Union is now 5-3 on the season and 1-1 in conference play.
