JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/23/2008 - The Union University men's soccer team trailed for just 30 seconds in their conference match versus Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University, before rallying for a 2-1 victory. Union improved to 4-3-1 on the season and 2-0 in league play. The Lions of Freed-Hardeman dropped to 4-5 overall and 0-2 in the TranSouth.
The Lions opened the scoring with a goal from Travis Shivers in the seventh minute of play. However, just 30 seconds later, Union's Paul Turner tied the game at 1-1. The score remained knotted at halftime.
Union stuck with a quick goal, just one minute into second half play to go up 2-1. That goal from Wagner Oliveira proved to be the game winner as Union held on for the conference win.
James Landham recorded two saves for Union, while Alexandre Girodo saved 12 shots for the Lions. Union out shot Freed-Hardeman 27-6 in the game, including 15-4 in the shots-on-goal category.
Up next for Union will be a home conference match on Saturday, September 27 at 4:00 pm versus Mid-Continent (Ky.) University.
