Union’s Pla named TranSouth defensive player of the week

JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/6/2008 - For the fourth time in 2008, Union University’s Laura Pla has been named the TranSouth Conference Defensive Player of the Week. This week's award comes for the week ending October 5, 2008.

Pla, a 5-foot-11 junior goalkeeper from Nashville, Tenn., posted her third straight shutout and sixth of the season in the Lady Bulldogs’ 2-0 win over cross-town rival Lambuth (Tenn.) University. In Union’s two wins on the week, she allowed one goal and saved eight shots. The goal she allowed in the second half of Union’s 3-1 win over Cumberland was the first she had allowed in seven halves of play.

The Lady Bulldogs are 9-3 on the season, and are currently in second place in the TranSouth with a 3-1 league record.

Up next for Union will be a non-conference match on Wednesday, October 8 versus Crichton (Tenn.) College at 3:00 pm.
