Union men's golf places second in Martin Methodist Invitational

CLIFTON, Tenn. - 10/10/2008 - The Union University men's golf team posted a second place finish in the Martin Methodist Invitational at the Ross Creek Golf Club in Clifton, Tenn. The one day, 18-hole match concluded with Union posting a 306, 12 shots behind the match winner, Cumberland (Tenn.) University's 294.

Union's Clay Mallard led all Bulldogs with a round of 74, which tied him for fourth place in the individual standings. A trio of Cumberland players, led by Guy Nardo's 71 topped the leader board.

Rounding out the six-team field was Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University (308) in third place, Lambuth (Tenn.) University (312) in fourth place, Bethel (Tenn.) College (314) in fifth place, and Martin Methodist (Tenn.) College 323) in sixth place.

Union's Jesper Swedenborg (75) was tied for sixth place, Mills Hamaguchi (76) was tied for 10th, Tyler Lay and David Hopper (79) were tied for 19th, Jake Carroll and Matt Kelley (81) were tied for 25th, Ryan Chandler (83) was tied for 32nd, and Stephen Brooks (90) finished 51st.

Up next for the Union golf team will be the UT Martin Skyhawk Invitational on October 13-14 at Paris Landing State Park.
