JACKSON, Tenn. - 11/6/2008 - The Union University men's soccer team posted a 2-0 win over former conference foe Crichton (Tenn.) College. The win moved Union to 9-5-2 on the season and extended their winning streak to four matches as they close out the regular season.
Union and Crichton (2-14-2) played a scoreless first half. Rain, which had started late in the first half, became heavier as it looked like both teams were struggling to score. However, in the 83rd minute of play, Union junior Paul Turner broke away for the first goal. Then, just five minutes later, Union was fouled in the box to set up a penalty kick for senior Wagner Oliviera. His successful kick put the game out of reach.
Union goalie, James Landham recorded three saves in his second shutout of the season. Union out-shot Crichton 15-9 in the match. Crichton goalie, Bradley Greer, kept Union scoreless over the first 83 minutes with seven saves.
Up next for Union will be the opening round of the TranSouth Conference Tournament on Saturday, November 8th at Union. The Bulldogs, seeded third in the tournament, will host No. 6 seed Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.). The winner will travel to No. 2 Bethel (Tenn.) College on Tuesday, November 11.
