JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/23/2009 - The Union University women’s soccer program has added another recruit to their 2009 roster with the latest signing of Kelsey Gilbert. Gilbert, a native of Hendersonville, Tenn., will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in Athletic Training in hopes of becoming a Physical Therapist.
Union's head coach, Brandon Boylan says, "Kelsey is an attack-minded player who will come in and provide depth at the forward or midfield position." Boylan adds, "We are excited that Kelsey has chosen Union to continue in her academic and athletic career. She is going to be a great addition to the university and our soccer program."
Gilbert, a 5-foot-3 forward, prepped at Davidson Academy where she was a three-sport athlete. In addition to four years of soccer, she played two seasons on the basketball team and ran track for a season. In soccer, Gilbert helped her team to the 2008 Region and Sub-State Titles, as well as, a region runner-up in 2007. She was helped her basketball team to a Division II Small School State Championship. Gilbert's soccer honors are numerous. She was named All-State, All-Region, Team MVP, Most Outstanding Player, and Team Caption as a senior.
As a junior, Gilbert earned a spot on the Tennessee Sports Writers All-State team, All-Region, Team MVP, and Team Captain. Gilbert set school records for most goals scored in a game (6), and was the school's all-time assists leader. Off the field, Gilbert was a member of FCA and Mu Alpha Theta.
