Union men erase 18-point deficit in win, hold first place in TranSouth

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/24/2009 - The No. 7 Union University Bulldogs erased an 18-point deficit to defeat Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.) University 78-75 at home on Tuesday night. With the win, Union held their one game lead in the TranSouth Conference standings with just two games to play. Union is now 23-5 on the season and 12-2 in league play. The Trojans of Trevecca Nazarene are now 12-16 overall and 6-8 in conference play.

At the 14:18 mark of the second half Trevecca Nazarene led Union by 18 points, 60-42. Union slowly started to chip away, and with 9:34 left to play Union had cut the Trojan lead to 10 points, 69-59. Over the next seven-plus minutes, Union exploded for a 17-0 run to give the Bulldogs their biggest lead of the contest, 76-69, with 2:05 to play. Trevecca Nazarene drained back-to-back three pointers to cut Union's lead to one, 76-75, with 1:20 left in the game. After both teams posted empty possessions, Union's Greg Truvillion made two free throws with sevens seconds left to put Union up by three, 78-75. Trevecca Nazarene then missed a late three-point attempt and Union's comeback victory was complete, 78-75.

This come-from-behind win for Union came just three days after the Bulldogs had lost a 17-point lead at Freed-Hardeman in 75-73 loss.

This game started much differently than many of Union's recent games, as the Bulldogs were down the entire first half. Trevecca Nazarene started the game on a 5-0 run and continued to build their lead, going up by as many as 10 points, 35-25 with just over two minutes left before the break. Union quickly answered with a Matt Neaville three pointer and a basket by Brian Lake to leave the Bulldogs down by only five points, 35-30. Trevecca's Brian Odour made a bucket of his own to give Trevecca a seven-point halftime advantage, 37-30.

Union was led on the night by Greg Truvillion, who posted his ninth double-double of the year with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Matt Neaville added 19 points and a game-high six assists in the Bulldog's win. Antoine Joseph and Keith Tolliver each recorded 10 points for Union.

Trevecca was led by Brian Odour with 21 points. Jeremy Dixon recorded 14 points for the Trojans. Michael France posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds, and Christopher Harris added 10 points.

Up next, the Bulldogs will travel to Blue Mountain, Miss., Thursday, Feb. 26, for a match up against Blue Mountain (Miss.) College. The game is set to tip off at 8 pm.
