Union baseball sweeps double-header over Huntington (Ind.)

JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/27/2009 - Union University's baseball team swept a double-header over Huntington (Ind.) University. Union won the first game 7-2 and the second game 1-0. With the pair of wins, Union moves to 9-2 on the season. The Foresters of Huntington are now 1-2 overall.

In the first game, Union scored five runs in the first three innings of play. Huntington posted two runs of their own in the top of the fourth inning, to pull within two runs, 4-2. Union then added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to set the final score at 7-2.

Carl Harken (2-0) was the winning pitcher for Union. Harken gave up two unearned runs, while allowing only five hits and striking out two batters. Offensively, David Maristany led Union going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Danny Grimm, Corey Rudolph, Cole McAdams, and Colby Starks also added two hits each in the contest.

In game two, Brad Davis (1-0) earned his first win in a complete game, five-hit shutout. Davis struck out seven batters and walked none in his seven innings of work. Rudoplh drove in the game's only run when his ground out in the bottom of the first scored Alex Turner, who doubled to lead off the game. Turner, McAdams and Derek Blackwood each had one hit in the game for Union's only three hits.

Next game for will be Monday, March 2 versus Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) College at Union's Fresmire Field. The double-header starts at noon.
