JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/4/2009 - The Union University softball program has signed Stephanie Saunders to the 2009-10 roster. Saunders will enter Union this coming fall as a freshman and will major in Sports Medicine/Physical Therapy.
Saunders, a 5-foot-8 first/third baseman, prepped at Cheatham County High School where she played four seasons of softball and volleyball. In softball, she was named District MVP, All-State, All-District, and All-Mid-State as a junior. Saunders added All-District honors as both a freshman and sophomore. As a junior, she hit .552 with a .625 on-base percentage and a 1.085 slugging percentage. Saunders also posted a .985 fielding percentage at first and third base. She was selected as Team Captain in her sophomore, junior, and senior seasons. Saunders helped lead her summer league softball team to the 2007 ASA State Title, and three ASA National Tournament appearances.
In volleyball, Saunders was named All-District as a senior.
Saunders was equally successful outside of athletics as she was on the National Honor Roll for four years. She was also a member of the Beta Club and Fellowship of Christian Athletes for four years.
