JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/9/2009 - The Union University softball team dropped a pair of games to Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University on Monday. The Lady Bulldogs lost the first game 4-0 and fell again in the second game by a final score of 6-1. The Lady Bulldogs are now 8-9 on the season, while the Lady Lions of Freed-Hardeman move to 7-3.
In the first game, Freed-Hardeman scored two runs early going up 2-0 in the top of the first. The Lady Bulldogs struggled to gain any offensive momentum as Lady Lion pitcher Tarah Tucker dominated with seven innings of one-hit ball, while striking out seven hitters. Freed-Hardeman added two more runs in the top of the seventh inning to win by a final score of 4-0.
In the second game, Freed-Hardeman again jumped out to an early lead, putting up four runs in the top of the first. Then in the bottom of the third inning, Union strung together a pair of hits by Michelle Albonetti and Katie Davis. Albonetti eventually came around to score for Union's lone run of the day. Freed-Hardeman posted two more runs in the top of the fourth to seal their second win of the day, 6-1.
Next up for Union will be a trip to Mid-Continent (Ky.) University for the first conference double-header of the season. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
