Union baseball wins series opener at Mid-Continent, 9-4

MAYFIELD, Ky. - 3/27/2009 - The Union University Bulldogs stopped their longest losing streak of the season at three games with a 9-4 win at Mid-Continent (Ky.) University on Friday afternoon. In a game delayed for two hours, 45 minutes by rain, Union posted the win to move their record to 17-9 on the season, and 4-5 in the TranSouth.

Mid-Continent scored first with a run in the bottom of the first. However, Union scored two runs in the second, two in the third, and three in the fourth to pull away. Union was led by David Maristany who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a homrun. Josh Jones was 3-for-5, while five other Bulldogs recorded one hit each, including a solo homerun from Alex Turner.

Senior Carl Harken (4-2) earned the win with a complete game, seven hit performance. He posted six strikeouts, while only one of the four runs scored on Harken was earned.

The two teams will play a double-header on Saturday, March 28 at 12:00 noon in Mayfield.
