JACKSON, Tenn. - 4/6/2009 - The Union University has signed Mary Jane Garrott to play soccer for the Lady Bulldogs beginning in the fall of 2009. Garrott, a native of Gallitin, Tenn., will enter Union as a freshman and will major in History.
Garrott, a 5-foot-6 goalie, played four seasons of soccer for Gallatin High School. She was a three-time All-District performer, twice named County Goalkeeper of the Year, a four-time All-County player, and was named Team MVP as a freshman. Garrott was also named defensive MVP as a sophomore, while earning the Dedication, Ability, and Leadership Award as a senior. She played in every second of every game during her four-year career, and was named Team Captain as a senior. Garrott participated in club soccer, helping lead the Metros FC '91 to the 2008 State Championship. Union head coach Brandon Boylan says, "Mary Jane is a great addition to our program. We feel she has the potential to develop into a very good keeper. She has a good work ethic and we are looking forward to her development over the next four tears." Boylan adds, "We are excited about what she brings to the program both on and off the field."
Off the field, Garrott was a member of the National Technical Honor Society and was listed among the Academic Top-30.
