DECATUR, Ala. - 5/19/2009 - Four Union University Lady Bulldogs earned recognition on the 2009 NAIA Scholar Athlete List released on Tuesday. Seniors Kristen Kirk and Ashley Blankenship are joined by juniors Lindsey Landreneau and Candice Thompson.
Kirk, a senior outfielder from Bolivar, Tenn., earned scholar athlete honors for the 2009 season. Kirk posted a .221 batting average with 29 hits and 15 RBI. After completing her senior campaign, Kirk posted a .252 career batting average, with 109 hits and 48 RBI over her career at Union.
Blankenship, a senior first baseman from Alabaster, Ala., hit .336 on the season on her way to a second All-Conference selection. She hit four doubles, four homeruns, and drove in 24 runs. Blankenship also completed a two-year career at first base where she committed just two errors in over 800 chances.
Landreneau, a junior shortstop and catcher from Leesburg, Ga., leads the Union team with a .384 batting average, 63 hits, 20 doubles, and three triples. She also has tallied 25 RBI and one homerun. Landreneau is tied for the team lead with 10 stolen bases.
Thompson, a junior catcher from Alamo, Tenn., hit .276 on the season. Thompson also posted 1.000 fielding percentage in her action behind the plate for the Lady Bulldogs this season.
