Lady Bulldog soccer evens record with overtime win, reserve team now 2-0

CHICAGO - 8/22/2009 - The Union University women’s soccer team evened their season record at 1-1 with a 2-1 overtime win over Illinois Institute of Technology. This marked the second straight overtime game to start the season for the varsity team. Earlier in the day, Union’s reserve team moved to 2-0 with a 5-1 win over College of Lake County (Ill.).

Union’s varsity team trailed 1-0 in the second half, before freshman Lindsey McGary tied the match. In overtime, senior forward Caitlin Zimmerman gave Union the win with her second goal of the season. Zimmerman and freshman Mollie Beanblossom each recorded assists in the match.

The reserve team for Union won for the second time in as many tries with a 5-1 victory over College of Lake County. Union was paced by Rachel Fillinger and Terilyn Wassell with two goals each, while Jackson native Jerry Ann Hopper added one goal. Fillinger, Tannis Bachman and Katie Johnson each added one assist each. Wassell has scored four goals in two games to start the season for the reserve team.

Union’s varsity team plays next on Saturday, August 29 at 12:00 p.m. in their home-opener against Brewton-Parker (Ga.).
