MAYFIELD, Ky. - 8/31/2009 - The Union University volleyball opened TranSouth Conference play with a 3-0 (25-5, 25-9, 25-13) win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University. Union improved to 4-0 on the season and 1-0 in league play. Mid-Continent dropped to 0-1 on the season.
Union was led by newcomers Marcela Madeira and Kelsey Duling with nine and six kills respectively. Katie Adams boasted 28 assists, while Duling led the way with four aces. Anna Sims led with five blocks for Union.
This week's TranSouth Conference player of the week, Heather Lieberman of Union, had five kills, two aces and five digs in the contest.
Up next for Union will be a trip to Jackson, Miss. for the Milsaps (Miss.) College Tournament on Friday and Saturday.
