Union volleyball tops Lyon, sets program record with 15-0 start

JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/22/2009 - The Union University Lady Bulldogs continued their winning streak with a victory against conference opponent Lyon (Ark.) College at Fred DeLay Gymnasium. Union won in three sets 25-19, 25-19, and 25-11. The Lady Bulldogs are now 15-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play, while Lyon is 6-12 on the season and 1-2 in conference.

With the win, Union set a new program record for best start to a season with 15 straight wins. Union has started three seasons 14-0 in 1998, 1999 and 2001. The 15-match winning streak is inching closer to the Union record of 22 straight matches during the 1999 season.

The Lady Bulldogs were led by junior Heather Lieberman with 11 kills and 14 digs. Marcela Madeira was close behind with nine kills and 10 digs.

Kaite Beineke of Lyon led her team with 12 kills and Crystal Bain had 10 digs.

Up next for Union is a conference match on Thursday, September 24 at 7:00 p.m. at Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) University.
