JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/16/2010 - The Union University women’s soccer team signed Grace Boto of Brentwood, Tenn. for a college scholarship. Boto will enter Union this fall as a freshman and will major in Art.
“I am looking forward to a new journey with a new team,” says Boto. “I am very excited to be at Union and to be playing soccer. I love the environment, the girls and the coaches, and I look forward to getting meet new friends.”
Boto, a 5-foot-9 striker, prepped at Brentwood High School where she played four years as a starter on the soccer team. As a forward and midfielder, Boto helped lead her high school team to the Tennessee AAA state title game in 2008 and the semifinals in 2009. She also played for the TNFC 92 Blue club team where her team was a two-time state finalist. Boto was the top scorer for her club team and was named Team Captain for her club team in 2008 and 2009.
Union head coach Brandon Boylan says, “Grace is a great addition to our program. She is a hard working, attack minded player that is willing to do what it takes to score goals. We are excited she has chosen Union as her university to continue her education and soccer career. She is a great fit for our soccer program and for Union.”
Off the field, Boto was a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and was named a Who's Who among American high school students. She was awarded the algebra certificate of achievement, was a high school honor student, while also completing 24 college credits during her junior and senior years.
Boto is a member of Brentwood Baptist Church and is the daughter of August and Cindy Boto. Her older brother Matt is a graduate of Union.
