Jackson, Tenn. - 2/10/2003 - Union University junior guard Jessica Henson was named the TranSouth Conference Player of the Week. Last week, Henson led the No. 2 ranked Lady Bulldogs to a 3-0 record including two wins over NAIA Top 10 teams. On the week, Henson averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 2.6 steals per game. She has led the Lady Bulldogs in their current 19-game winning streak and to a two-game lead in the TranSouth standings. Union is currently 24-1 overall and 10-0 in conference play.
On Monday, Union defeated No. 10 North Georgia College 88-67 on the road. In that game, Henson tallied 15 points and nine rebounds. She made five three pointers, tallied six assists, and picked up two steals. In Union’s 87-63 road win at Martin Methodist, she scored 31 points on 7-of 17 shooting from behind the arc. Henson added eight rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. On Saturday, Henson helped Union to a 76-66 win over No. 5 Freed-Hardeman. She scored 17 points, grabbed four boards, tallied three steals, and blocked two shots.
Henson, a native of Bradford, Tennessee, leads the Lady Bulldogs with 16.3 points per game. She is third on the team with 4.9 rebounds. Her 92 steals leads Union and her 79 assists rank second on the team.
