Union's Copley named TranSouth pitcher of the week

JACKSON, Tenn. - 5/4/2010 - Union (Tenn.) University's Derek Copley has been named the TranSouth Conference Pitcher of the Week for the week ending May 2, 2010.

Copley, a 6-foot-3 junior from Dyer, Tenn., posted a 1-0 record on the week. Copley helped Union keep their grip on second place in the TranSouth with a 10-2 victory at conference foe Trevecca Nazarene (Tenn.). Copley tossed a complete game allowing two runs on five hits with five strikeouts. He kept the Trojans off the scoreboard in six of the seven innings. Copley is now 8-1 with one save on the season. He has a 3.08 ERA in 64.1 innings pitched.

Union, ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, is 34-13 on the season and is in second place in the league with an 11-5 conference record. The Bulldogs play host to third place Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Thursday and Friday in the final regular season games of the season.
