JACKSON, Tenn. - 7/9/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team has signed Skyler Vaden to the roster for 2010-11. The Los Angeles native will join Union this fall as a junior.
“I picked Union University because it is a great opportunity for me to focus on basketball and academics”, says Vaden. “Union University has a great reputation for its athletics, academics and spiritual life. I know that because of this I will be able to improve my life on and off the court.”
Vaden, a 6-foot-2, 175 lb. guard, comes to Union after spending two seasons at Bakersfield (Calif.) Community College. He averaged 11.7 points, four assists and two steals per game. Vaden was named first team all-conference in the Western State Conference. He ranked No. 3 in the conference with his 2.3 steals per game.
Vaden played his high school basketball at Washington (Calif.) Prep. He averaged 17 points per game as a senior and was named first team in the Marine League.
Union head coach David Niven says, “I am really excited about Skyler’s decision to join our program. He has played for a very good coach in Rich Hughes. Bakersfield College is one of the top programs in the state of California. Skyler is a very versatile guard and can play all three guard positions for our team. He has the ability to score from inside and out and will be one of the best defenders on our team next year. Skyler is a great kid and definitely fills a need left by some of our seniors.”
