Union softball signs Milan star for 2011-12 season

JACKSON, Tenn. - 8/20/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University softball team has begun work on the recruiting class for the 2011-12 season with the signing of Alex Williams of Milan, Tenn. Williams will enter Union in the fall of 2011 and will major in Education.

Williams is beginning her senior season at Milan (Tenn.)High School where she plays softball for Coach Tim Jackson. Williams earned all-district and all-district tournament honors in her first three seasons at Milan. She was also named All-West Tennessee as a freshman and sophomore. As a junior, Williams posted a 1.63 ERA and had a batting average of .403. She led the team in triples, home runs and putouts. Williams was named the Milan Pitcher of the Year three times, leading the team in ERA for those three seasons.

Union head coach Heather Hall says, “Alex is a very versatile athlete who will see time on the mound and in the outfield at Union. We have seen Alex steadily improved and mature her game. She has the ability to be a stand out in the TranSouth Conference, even as a freshman.”

Williams is the daughter of Wendy Williams and is a member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
