JACKSON, Tenn. - 9/21/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University women’s soccer team posted a 6-1 victory over Central Baptist (Ark.) College on Tuesday. Union improved to 4-2 on the season, while Central Baptist dropped to 5-3.
Union scored first on their way to a 5-0 halftime lead. Megan Roney scored on a rebound to put Union up 1-0 in the 15th minute of play. Just two minutes later, Grace Boto scored the game-winner. In the 33rd minute, Terilyn Wassell scored with assists coming from Boto and Whitney Kramer. With 11 minutes remaining in the half, Union Bridget Roney scored on a penalty kick to put Union up 4-0. Then, Boto scored her second goal of the match in the 39th minute to put Union up 5-0.
In the second half, Central Baptist got on the board with a goal from Ashley Baldwin in the 58th minute. Union answered with a goal from Kramer in the 81st minute to set the final at 6-1.
Union out-shot Central Baptist 12-7 in the match, including 8-2 in shots on goal. Mary Jane Garrott recorded a save in her 90 minutes of goalie work for Union. Rachel Rodgers recorded two saves for Central Baptist.
Up next for Union will be a road match on Friday, Sept. 24 at NAIA No. 8 William Carey (Miss.) and then a match at Belhaven (Miss.) on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 3:00 p.m.
