JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/2/2010 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s soccer team dropped their first match of the season with a 2-1 double overtime loss to Mid-Continent (Ky.) University on Saturday. Union dropped to 8-1 on the season and 1-1 in the TranSouth. Mid-Continent, who is receiving votes in the latest NAIA rankings, improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-0 in league play.
Union scored first in the 17th minute of play on a goal from Dajan Kostic. Eleven minutes later, Mid-Continent tied the match at 1-1 on a goal from Algeon Sappleton. It would take 78 more minutes of play, including a second overtime for the next goal to occur. It came in the 106th minute of play when Mid-Continent’s Keagan Bacchus scored on an assist from Jan Chvojan to earn the win.
Union out-shot Mid-Continent 13-8 in the match, including 4-2 in both the first and second halves and 5-4 in the overtimes. Union also led with 10 shots on goal to Mid-Continent’s five. Union goalie James Landham recorded three saves in the match, while his counterpart Andres Blanco recorded eight saves.
Up next for Union will be a home match on Tuesday, October 5 versus Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at 7:00 p.m.
