JACKSON, Tenn. - 10/14/2010 - Jacob Alexander has signed to play his college baseball for the Union (Tenn.) University Bulldogs. Alexander will graduate from North Side High School in May and will enter Union this fall as a freshman, majoring in Christian Studies.
Alexander, a 5-foot-11, 170 lb. shortstop, prepped at North Side (Tenn.) High School where he played baseball, basketball and football. As a starter each season for the baseball team, Alexander played second base, third base, shortstop and pitched for coach Chris Clark and Jason McCauley. He was named a TBCA Super Sophomore, Jackson Sun All-District, all-tournament, all-west Tennessee and TSWA All-State as a sophomore. Following his junior year, he earned all-district, all-tournament, all-region and was the winning pitcher in the district semifinals and finals. Alexander played summer baseball for the KenTenn Xpress American Legion and the APAK All-Stars. Alexander's career totals through his junior season included a .454 batting average, 78 RBI, 137 hits, eight home runs, 112 runs and 30 stolen bases.
Off the field, Alexander was in the Honors Program and was a member of the Academic Decathlon Team that earned medalist at the state competition.
Alexander is the son of Paul and Leanne Alexander and is a member of West Jackson Baptist Church. He is the grandson of Huey and Glenda Alexander of Savannah and Ray and Glenda Byrd of Bartlett. He is also the nephew of David Alexander and Russell and Kathy Byrd.
