Jackson, Tenn. - 3/25/2003 - Two Union University softball players earned this weeks TranSouth Conference and NAIA Region XI Player and Pitcher of the Week honors. Freshman Jessica Kee was named the Player of the Week, while fellow freshman, Mary Kosco earned the Pitcher of the Week honor. These two players propelled No. 9 Union to a 3-1 record for the week and moved the Lady Bulldogs to 19-5 overall and 5-1 in the TranSouth Conference.
Kee is from Jackson, Tennessee where she played her high school softball at Jackson Christian School. The 5’7” third basemen finished the week 4-for-13 (.307) from the plate with five runs, three home runs, and six RBI. Kee is hitting .353 on the season and had three homers in four games against ranked conference opponents.
Mary Kosco, a freshman from Herrin, Illinois, went 2-0 on the week to earn this honor. Kosco, a 5-foot-5 right-hander, started the week with a one-hit complete game shutout (7-0) decision over Trevecca Nazarene and finished her week with a complete game one-run (5-1) victory over Lee University. Kosco allowed a combined eight hits, two walks, one run, and had 12 strikeouts for the week. Kosco is now 10-2 on the year with a 0.35 ERA.
Union finished with a 3-1 record on the week. The Lady Bulldogs are 21-5 overall and 5-1 in TranSouth Athletic Conference Play. Union continues to hold the No. 1 ranking in this week’s NAIA Region XI rankings and was ranked No. 9 in last week’s NAIA Softball Poll. Their 5-1 conference record leads the TranSouth Conference standings.
