JACKSON, Tenn. - 1/18/2011 - The Union (Tenn.) University men’s and women’s basketball teams continued their presence in the latest NAIA basketball rankings. The Union men jumped one spot to No. 16, while the women kept their strong hold on the No. 1 ranking.
Union’s men posted a 2-0 week last week, including a win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.), who is receiving votes in the poll. Union has now won three straight games and 12 of their past 13. The only loss for Union in that stretch was to No. 6 Martin Methodist (Tenn.). The latest win came on Monday night 92-77 at Mid-Continent (Ky.). Union scored 90 points for the second straight game and continued their hot shooting from the field and behind the arc. Union has made at least 10 three pointers in five straight games. Over the past two games, Union has shot over 50 percent from the field.
On the women’s side, Union is ranked No. 1 for the 41st straight ranking dating back to the preseason poll of 2007. Union is 18-0 on the season and has won 23 straight games dating back to last season. Union has won 56 straight TranSouth regular season games and 40 straight regular season games overall. The Union record for consecutive regular season wins is 43. The 56 straight TranSouth regular season wins is a conference and school record.
