Jackson, Tenn. - 4/17/2003 - Union University has signed two new players for their 2003 volleyball season. Lindsay Holmes of Franklin, Tenn. and Kelly Huffines of Nashville have agreed to play their college volleyball for the Lady Bulldogs. Both players will enter as freshmen and will help add depth to a team that is returning six of the ten players from last season.
Homes, a 5-for-9 defensive specialist, prepped at Franklin High School where she was a member of the volleyball and swimming teams. In volleyball, she was named All-District as a sophomore, junior, and senior. In her senior year, Homes was also named to the All-Region team. Holmes was voted No.1 server by the Tennessee Sports Writers and was Franklin’s team captain during both her junior and senior seasons. Holmes is a member of the National Honor Society.
Huffines joins Union from Donelson Christian Academy where she played volleyball, basketball, and tennis. Huffines, a 5-for-9 outside hitter, helped lead DCA to two District Championships and two Sub-State Championships (2001, 2002). In 2002, her team finished runner-up in the state tournament. Huffines was named All-District, All-Region, All-State, and All-State Tournament as a senior. Her junior year was just as successful with All-District, All-Region, and All-State honors.
Union University opens their 2003 season on August 29 in the John Brown University Tournament in Arkansas. The Lady Bulldogs home opener will be September 5 as they host the Union University Invitational on that Friday and Saturday.
