JACKSON, Tenn. - 2/26/2011 - The No. 16 Union (Tenn.) University baseball team posted a double-header split with Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) University on Saturday at Fesmire Field. Union took the first game 1-0, and then fell in the second game 8-3. Union is now 10-2 on the season, while Lindsey Wilson is 7-4.
In the first game to notch their 10th win of the season, Union starter and reigning TranSouth Pitcher of the Week Jared Davis, produced another complete game shutout. It was his second straight in three starts on the season. Davis (3-0) tossed seven innings, allowing just three hits, no runs, while striking out two and walking none. Union managed just three hits in the game also by three different players. Bryan Hill’s triple in the fourth inning drove in Clint Barnes who doubled.
For Lindsey Wilson, Derek Cape (2-1) suffered his first loss of the season with a complete game effort, allowing just one run on three hits and four strikeouts.
The second game started with Lindsey Wilson scoring twice in the first inning on starter Derek Copley (1-1). After two more Lindsey Wilson runs in the third inning with no outs, Copley was pulled in favor of Cody Dew. Dew tossed 2.1 innings, allowing six hits and two runs. Justin Bryan tossed the final two 2.2 innings for Union, allowing four hits and two runs. Lindsey Wilson scored two more in the fifth, and one each in the sixth and seventh innings.
Union scored three runs in the sixth, but could not overcome the deficit. Cole McAdams led Union with two of the team’s four hits in the game. Kevin Kirksey’s double drove in two runs, while McAdams singled in another. Lindsey Wilson was led by Lance Harrington in game two with a 4-for-4 performance. Ryan Williams led with four RBI. Rob Kurtz (2-0) earned the win with a complete game, four hitter, allowing three runs and striking out six.
Up next for Union will be a home double-header on Tuesday, March 1 versus Lane (Tenn.)
