JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/3/2011 - The No. 9 Union (Tenn.) University men’s basketball team posted an 88-50 win over Mid-Continent (Ky.) University in the quarterfinals of the TranSouth Conference Tournament. Union improved to 26-5 on the season, while the #7 seed Mid-Continent ended their season with an 11-20 record.
Union sank 15-of-33 from long range for 46 percent in the game, including 7-of-14 in the first half to jump out to the lead at the break.
Junior guard Antoine Hall of Union led the way for the Bulldogs with 21 points, including seven 3-pointers. He led all scorers with 12 points at the half.
Union opened with Hall’s first three pointer. Union maintained a narrow lead for the first six minutes and led 10-9 at the 13:24 mark. The Bulldogs then began to extend their lead. At the 1:34 mark of the first half, Union held their largest advantage of the first half at 18 points, 40-22. Union led 41-24 at the break.
In the second half, Union outscored Mid-Continent over the first seven-plus minutes of play 21-5 to lead 61-27. Union maintained control and with 4:50 left to play, Union held their largest lead of the game at 43 points, 81-38. Union coasted down the stretch to get the 88-50 victory.
Hall led five players in double figures with his 21 points. Stan McNeil and Antoine Joseph scored 11 points each, while CJ Davis and Samuel Danache added 10 points apiece. Union shot 49 percent from the field and 68 percent (15-22) from the free throw line.
Mid-Continent was led by Tim Bryant with 13 points. The Cougars shot 31 percent from the field, 39 percent (9-23) from behind the arc and 50 percent (3-6) from the free throw line.
Up next for Union will be a game versus #3 seed Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at Union on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. in the conference semifinals.
