JACKSON, Tenn. - 3/18/2011 - The No. 16 Union (Tenn.) University baseball team rallied for a 7-4 win over Lyon (Ark.) College on Friday. Union improved to 19-4 on the season and 4-0 in league play. Lyon dropped to 11-13 overall and 0-4 in league play.
Lyon jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the top of the first when three of the first four batters reached base. Jim Gossett’s two-RBI single did the damage for Lyon.
The score remained 1-0 until Union posted a tally in the third and then took the lead with three runs in the fourth. A two-RBI double by Danny Grimm capped off the fourth and gave Union their first lead. Lyon added a run in the fifth and another in the eighth, while Union scored single runs in each the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.
Cole McAdams homered for Union to lead off the seventh inning. He finished the game leading Union with three hits in five at-bats, with two RBI and one run scored. Brett Pawlen, Kian Jost and Doug Joyce each added two hits. Grimm added two RBI.
Jeremey Stack earned the win with eight innings of work, allowing nine hits and striking out nine batters. Matt Fike earned the save with a perfect ninth inning and one strike out.
Union and Lyon will complete the three-game series on Saturday with a double-header starting at noon.
